Information
Having Legal Awareness of Accessibility enables individuals and organisations to understand their rights and responsibilities. By recognising the laws, policies, and regulations we make it possible for everyone, regardless of ability, to gain equal access to websites and applications at an international level. Please note that the information in this module was correct at the time of writing, and may be updated, replaced, or made obsolete by other documents at any time.
Topics
The following topics are available in this elearning module:
UK Legislation
In this topic, we will be looking at UK legislation (The Equality Act 2010) and who is protected by it, what it can be applied to, and how it works.
European Legislation
European legislation encompasses The European Accessibility Act (EAA), The European Web Accessibility Directive, and The EN 301 549 Standard which underpins the EAA, providing an overview of how they are applied and what they mean for public and private sector bodies.
Americans with Disabilities Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is the main subject of this topic. We will also be delving into Public Aspects of the ADA and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Understanding how Section 508 and WCAG can work together ensures legal compliance, inclusivity, the best practice for accessibility, and we will learn how we can use WCAG standards as a guide.
