Requirements
- All audio and video content, including important speech or sound, must have a text equivalent.
- You must provide captions for all pre-recorded videos (including essential speech or sound), except when the media is a media alternative for text and is clearly labelled.
- Audio/ video embedded in an application (including the audio part of a video or multimedia file) must play for no more than 3 seconds before pausing or play only when the user chooses. The DAC recommends NOT auto playing ANY content with sound.
- Impaired users can access labelled play and pause controls for the audio/ video player.
Full Explanation
Information conveyed with sound or video must have appropriate alternative text so that deaf and hearing impaired users can read equivalents of audio information. Ensure you fully utilise the native features (video player) of the mobile device. Including a text transcript in audio-only files benefits deaf users by providing them with information about the conveyed content.
