1.2.1 Audio-only and Video-only (Pre-recorded) (A)

The WCAG 2.1 Accessibility Guideline currently requires that a descriptive text transcript be provided in all cases for prerecorded audio-only or prerecorded video-only content to ensure that anyone can get similar information from audio or video content, even if they have sight or hearing disabilities.

How to test

  1. Open the web page to be tested. Review the page for any audio-only or video- only content and check that a descriptive text transcript is available.
  2. Review the transcript. Check that:
    • it provides a correct text description of the time-based visual or auditory information;
    • it is clearly labelled as being a transcript of the audio-only or video-only content.

Potential access issues

  • The audio-only or video-only content does not have a descriptive text transcript.
  • The descriptive text transcript gives different or inaccurate information than that provided by the audio-only or video-only content.
  • The descriptive text transcript is not clearly labelled as a transcript of the audio- only or video-only content.
