Multiple Ways
2.4.5 Multiple Ways (AA)
This guideline is to ensure that websites provide more than one way to locate content within a set of web pages so that people can locate content in a way that best meets their needs.
Exceptions
Where the web page is the result of, or a step in, a process. Example: a search engine provides search results based on user input. There is no other way to find the search results except by performing the search.
How to test
- Open the web page to be tested.
- Look for multiple ways of finding content on the site. Any two of the following are sufficient:
-
- List of links to related pages on the site
- Table of contents linking a document’s various sections
- Link to a site map that itself links to all sections of the site
- Site search function
- List of links to all the other pages on the site (useful only on very small websites)
- Link to the home page which has links to all of the pages on the site (useful only on very small websites)
Potential access issues
- Only one mechanism for finding content is provided.
